本课程介绍人类学的基本知识，培养文化人类学的眼光和视野，使同学对人类学的分支、基本理念、方法和热点话题等有一个较为完整的了解。作为研究人类行为的三大支柱学科之一，人类学是关于人类及其文化的科学，是人文学科（Liberal Arts or Humanities）的基础学科之一。主要内容两大部分：基础知识、专题及个案研究。前者包括：人类学是什么？人类学的基本理念和概念；人类学的研究方法——主位和客位研究；人类学的主要流派；人类的进化：生物和文化的角度；文化的概念和差异等。后者包括语言和文化；食物采集与经济体系；社会性别与文化；婚姻、家庭与亲属制度；文化与社会变迁；人类学与当代社会等。也可作为其他专业的选修课。
This class introduces students to the methods and perspectives of cultural anthropology. Readings emphasize case studies in very different settings from very different perspectives and schools along historical line. Although some of the results and conclusions of anthropology will be discussed, emphasis will be on appreciating cultural difference and its implications, studying cultures and societies through long-term fieldwork, and most of all, learning to think analytically about other people’s lives and our own.
